How We Use AI

Ask Mike is an AI assistant
"Ask Mike" is an artificial intelligence assistant. It is not Mike Colvin, and it is not a staff member. It answers in first person to make conversations easier to follow, but every response is generated by AI.
AI Ballot Assistant
The AI Ballot Assistant helps voters find their polling place, early voting sites, ballot contests, and ID requirements. It uses AI together with public election information, so results can contain errors. Always confirm with the NC State Board of Elections or your county board of elections before you vote.
What data it uses
- Ask Mike draws on a short, approved summary of Mike's public biography, priorities, and contact information.
- Your question is sent to an AI service to generate a reply.
- The Ballot Assistant sends the address you type to an AI service to look up public election information.
- We do not save your questions or addresses in our database, and we do not sell them.
What it won't do
- Make up positions. If it does not have the information, it should say so.
- Cite votes, bills, or statistics it cannot verify. For the official legislative record, see the NC General Assembly website.
- Answer questions about other people, other states, or unrelated topics.
- Respond to hateful, harassing, or sexual language.
- Give legal or voting-eligibility advice.
AI can still make mistakes. If something looks wrong, please tell us.
